Australia supplies the overwhelming majority of the world’s opal, a colourful mineral-like material which is put to outstanding artistic use in this exceptionally popular series. Horse design

The coin’s reverse incorporates a circular panel featuring a curled snake detailed in pure Australian opal. Struck elements include intricate patterning with stylised depictions of jasmine, a plant said to attract snakes. The design also includes the inscription ‘YEAR OF THE HORSE and the Chinese character for ‘snake’ together with the 2026 year-date, the coin’s weight and purity, and The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark.
