Introduced in 1996, the long-running Australian Lunar Coin Series features the 12 animals of the lunar zodiac. This 2025 release celebrates the snake, whose rule over every sixth year in the 12-year lunar cycle is said to bestow intelligence, independence, and charm on people born under its influence.
The coin portrays a snake which has been meticulously gilded in 24-carat gold. Included in the design is the inscription ‘SNAKE 2025’, the Chinese character for ‘Snake’, and The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark.
The coin’s obverse bears the Dan Thorne effigy of His Majesty King Charles III.
Accompanied by a numbered certificate of authenticity, the coin is presented in a classic display case with a geometric design on its transparent lid. The case comes in an illustrated shipper featuring a snake. When arrayed with other shippers from the series, the resulting diorama depicts the legend of The Great Race, in which 12 animals successfully compete for a position in the lunar zodiac.
