2022 tiger

First released for 1996 and now in its third cycle, the long-running Australian Lunar Coin Series celebrates the 12 animals of the lunar zodiac. These 2022 coins celebrate the tiger, whose rule over every third year in the 12-year lunar calendar is said to bestow courage, confidence and charm on people born under its influence in 1950, 1962, 1974, 1986, 1998, 2010 and 2022.

Coloured tiger design

The coin portrays a tiger cub following its proud and protective parent across a rocky terrain. Also included in the design are representations of bamboo and ferns, the Chinese character for ‘tiger’, the inscription ‘TIGER 2022’ and The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark.

Classic display case

Accompanied by a numbered certificate of authenticity, the coin is housed in a classic display case with a clear lid and an illustrated shipper which aligns with other 1oz coloured coin releases to form a diorama of every animal in the lunar calendar.
