In Chinese culture, the dragon is revered as a divine mythical creature, a symbol of power, strength, wealth and good fortune.
The number eight is considered extremely lucky as the Chinese word for ‘eight’ means good fortune or money. The number 8 is also uniquely symmetric, and when laid on its side, resembles the mathematical symbol for infinity.
The coin is struck by The Perth Mint from 2oz of 99.99% pure silver.
Shaped like a figure eight, the coin’s reverse features two dragons wrapped around one another and holding coins in their claws. The Perth Mint’s traditional ‘P’ mintmark also appears in the design.
This coin has been individually ‘antiqued’ to give it a unique finish conveying the surface abrasions of an ancient artefact. As a result of this treatment, the appearance of each coin may vary.
Issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965, the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the monetary denomination, and the 2018 year-date are shown on the coin’s obverse.
The Perth Mint will release no more than 8,888 of the Figure Eight Dragon 2018 2oz Silver Antiqued Coin.
Each coin is presented in a clear acrylic display case allowing both sides of the coin to be displayed and it is packaged within an illustrated shipper. The coin is accompanied by a numbered Certificate of Authenticity.
