Combining symbols of luck, prosperity, ambition and wealth, this innovative coin is a fitting tribute to Chinese culture and traditions. Thanks to their ability to swim upstream, koi fish have long represented perseverance and strength of purpose in eastern cultures. As such they have become a symbol of good luck, abundance, courage independence and ambition. The number eight is also considered extremely lucky as the Chinese word for ‘eight’ sounds similar to ‘good fortune’ or ‘money’.
The coin’s reverse features two koi fish swimming against the currents and a lotus flower. The Perth Mint’s traditional ‘P’ mintmark also appears in the design.
Each coin in the mintage has been individually ‘antiqued’ to give it a unique finish conveying the surface abrasions of an ancient artefact. As a result of this treatment, the appearance of each coin may vary.
The coin is presented in a clear acrylic display case, allowing both the obverse and reverse designs to be displayed, and is packaged within an illustrated shipper. The coin is accompanied by a numbered Certificate of Authenticity.
